English sounds are naturally different from Japanese and distinguishing them is always very difficult. An easy and fun way to acclimatize our ears to these different sounds is by listening to music and singing along in English. Children are very quick at learning new songs and even among adults my students (English and French) with the best pronunciation always enjoy listening to music as a hobby.

At AGORA music forms an important part of the young learners’ language curriculum. While songs are used extensively in the AKG, Baby & Mom, and Long Kinder programs elementary school children in ALS come together in the Canada Room to sing a catchy tune. 英語の発音はもともと日本語と違い、聞きとるのはとても難しいものです。その難しい音に耳を慣らす簡単で楽しい方法が、音楽に合わせて英語で歌を歌うことです。子供たちはあっという間に歌を覚えてしまいますし、私の社会人クラス（英語及びフランス語）の生徒の中でも、発音の良い人はいつも趣味で音楽を聞くのを楽しんでいる人たちです。
　
アゴラのカリキュラムでは、小さな子供たちが英語を学ぶ際、歌が重要な役割を果たしています。AKGやベビー&マム、ロングキンダーのクラスではたくさんの歌を歌っていますし、小学生のALSクラスでは、みんなカナダルームに集まり、楽しくて覚えやすい歌を一緒に歌います。今月の歌は“What do you want for Christmas.”（クリスマスプレゼントは何がいい？）です。

Fukushima; Moving Forward 前に向かってGO!!


The last few months have forced many of us to reflect on our lives here in Fukushima. Many families and individuals have decided that they prefer to live elsewhere and they cannot be criticized for doing so. It is a very personal decision that should be respected. At the same time we should think for ourselves and not be concerned or on the contrary reassured by the actions of others.

Directly due to the events of 3/11 numerous students and some AGORA staff in both Fukushima and Koriyama have decided to leave. Many more will likely follow but AGORA remains committed to its students and plans to adapt to the new situation. Our goal of being Fukushima’s best school for foreign language education remains unchanged and we will do what is necessary to excel in this new environment.

It is important that Fukushima moves forward with increased vigor. There are many wonderful people in Fukushima and AGORA looks forward to working with them to tackle the many challenges that lie ahead.

　ここ数ヶ月、たくさんの人たちがここ福島での生活について、そして未来に何を望むかについて考えさせられました。多くの家族や個人が福島を離れて暮らすことを決断し、そして誰もそれを責めることはできません。それはとても個人的な判断であり、尊重されるべきものです。他の人がどう行動するかは心配しなくてもいいと思います 。

　3月11日の出来事が直接影響して、福島と郡山両方のアゴラの多数の生徒や何人かのスタッフが辞める決断をしました。これからさらにその数は増えると思われますが、アゴラはこれからも残った生徒たちのために努力を続け、新たな状況に立ち向かっていきたいと思います。福島で一番の外国語教室になるという私たちの目標はこれからも変わりません。そして、この状況に打ち勝つために必要なことをしていきます。

　福島が前に向かって元気にがんばっていくことが大切だと思います。福島にはたくさんの素晴らしい人々がいるので、アゴラはそんな人たちと共に、これから待ち受けているだろう課題に一緒に取り組んでいきたいと考えています。

4万坪以上のトロピカルなグラウンドを持つFRESHWATER CHRISTIAN COLLEGEに伺いました。　子どもたちは一人ずつ5年生と6年生のクラスに入りまして、一日を過ごしました。　最初はみんながかなり緊張をしましたがすぐ落ち着いてほかの子どもたちと楽しく交流ができました。　

授業中に校長先生と(レジスが）長く話をして、「この学校が本当にすばらしい！」と思いました。　近い未来、アゴラの生徒たちが一日ではなくて、2週間〜1年以上FRESHWATER CHRISTIAN COLLEGEで留学をすれべとてもいいと思います。

二日目　オーストラリア動物発見!!

午前中にオーストラリアの動物についていろいろを勉強したらケアンズトロピカル動物園に行ってきました。　帰りはYvonne先生が親切にPalm Coveを案内してもらいました。　Palm Coveがケアンズでは大人気の観桜スポットだそうです。　しかし、｢ワニ注意！」の看板があってちょっと怖かったです。

1日目　ケインズに到着！

昨日、朝8：30にケアンズに到着しました。　ついでにCairns Language Centerに行って学校を案内してもらったり、１週間の予定を聞いたり(英語で)、ホームステイーのための英語を勉強したりしました。

室外の食堂でおいしいオーストラリアのサンドをごちそうになったらケアンズ町のめぐりツアーをしました。

夕方の5時にホスト ファミリーが迎えに来て、みんながそれぞれの家に帰りました。　大変疲れて、私(レジス)が8：30に寝たんだけど男の子たちは10時過ぎまで元気でおしゃべりしたそうです。　今日、がんばって家の子達と同時に8：30から静かに寝るように約束してもらいました。:-)

On this 10th anniversary of our school we decided to completely change our website and bring it more in line with the school's culture. We are still tweaking it so it might be a few more weeks before we are completely satisfied.
